TU Chemnitz
Technische Universität Chemnitz is a public university that emerged from „Königliche Gewerbschule Chemnitz“, which was founded in 1836.
Education was initially subdivided into three branches: Mechanical Technology, Chemical Engineering and Agriculture. At the beginning of the 19th century, Mechanical Engineering has been established.
At present, TU Chemnitz has ca. 11,600 students, 156 professors, ca. 1,400 scientific and academic staff members and 8 faculties, the largest being the Faculty for Mechanical Engineering with 28 departments, ca. 1700 students and 18 Bachelor or Master study courses.
TU Chemnitz stands for cutting-edge research and high-quality education. In cooperation with numerous national and international research institutions and industrial partners as well as affiliated institutes, TU Chemnitz offers an ideal environment that combines practical education and basic as well as applied research.
There are four different university sites in Chemnitz, with the main campus for Mechanical engineers being in Reichenhainer Straße. This is no problem, however, since public transport within Chemnitz is free for students of TUC and buses and trams run frequently.
The main campus offers several lecture buildings, libraries, computer pools, cafés, restaurants, the canteen, sports facilities. It is also home to many affiliated institutes, like Fraunhofer ENAS.
Student accomodations, bus and tram stops as well as shops and supermarkets are close by.
