Czech Technical University in Prague
CTU in Prague provides high-quality university education through an extensive portfolio of primarily engineering branches of study, conduct basic and applied research and numerous scientific projects with great emphasis on industrial use and applications. We cooperate closely with both domestic and foreign-based institutions.
The Czech Technical University in Prague was established on the initiative of Josef Christian Willenberg, on the basis of a foundation deed signed by Emperor Joseph I and dated 18 January, 1707.
In the 2012/2013 academic year, about 24 000 students studied at CTU, and about 1,500 academic workers taught and carried out research at the university.
Faculty of Mechanical Engineering
Mechanical engineering as an independent field of study began to be taught at this school in 1864 and consequently this year is considered as the date of the establishment of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.
The contemporary Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the CTU in Prague provides technical education on a university level and educates specialists in many fields of mechanical engineering.
Accredited studies at the Faculty comprise : Structured studies (an eight-semester Bachelor study programme – Bc., a four-semester Master study programme for Bachelor graduates – Ing. , Doctoral study programme) and an four-semester Master study programme for Bachelor graduates – Ing.
The Faculty is engaged in international educational cooperation in many spheres. Besides the mobility of students and the academic staff both executed on a contractual basis concerned are namely scientific, research and educational activities including participation in scientific and technical seminars and conferences namely in the EU. International cooperation in science and research is implemented by direct involvement in particular EU or other international programmes.
The Faculty is also engaged in the work of other research centres. It cooperates with the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, Engineering Academy of the Czech Republic, Association of Research Institutes, Association of Industry and Transport, Association of Producers of Mechanical Engineering Technology and with a number of large, medium and small industrial companies, e.g. Siemens, Porsche, ŠkodaAuto, Hydrosystem Olomouc etc.
The premises of the Faculty are in four different localities in Prague : Prague 6-Dejvice, the ancient Faculty building on Charles´ Square and buildings on Horská and Na Julisce Streets. The Master of Automotive Engineering is taught mainly in the main campus in Prague 6 (15 minits walk from Prague castle).
The aim of the contemporary Faculty is to be a peak educational and research establishment recognized both in the Czech Republic and abroad. The faculty is involved in the process of harmonization of the European Educational and Research Area in order to be fully compatible with with the European system and also to be attractive to its students and to comply with demands of the society.
At present 34 professors, 55 associate professors, and 155 teaching assistants, who are also involved in a number of research and development projects, work in departments and research centres.
